AI Writing Assistant Usage Guide
Overview
The AI Writing Assistant is your creative partner. It understands:
- Story structure and pacing
- Character consistency and development
- Dialogue authenticity and voice
- Genre conventions and reader expectations
How to Get AI Suggestions
In Real-Time (As You Write)
- Start typing a scene or beat
- AI suggestions appear as contextual options
- Click to accept a suggestion, or keep typing your own words
- Your writing style is learned over time
Using the Codex (Context Panel)
The Codex stores your story's information:
- Canon — Locked facts (character traits, world rules, events)
- Beats — Story structure points (goals, obstacles, stakes)
- Style — Voice preferences (tone, vocabulary, genre conventions)
- Research — Sources and references you've collected
AI uses this context to make smarter suggestions.
Generation Options
When You Want Fresh Ideas
Scene Generation — Create an entire scene based on:
- Current story state and character position
- What should happen next (your directive)
- Length preference (short, medium, long)
Beat Generation — Generate specific narrative beats:
- Goal, obstacle, stakes, or turning point
- Dialogue-heavy or action-focused versions
- Different emotional intensities
Continuation — Extend what you've already written:
- Pick up from your last paragraph
- Maintain your exact voice and style
- Suggest what happens next
How to Use Generation
- Highlight where you want to insert generated text
- Choose generation type (Scene, Beat, or Continuation)
- Set your directive (what should happen, tone, length)
- Review the generated text
- Accept, edit, or request a revision
Tips for Best Results
- Be Specific — "Tense confrontation where Sarah reveals the secret" works better than "write the next scene"
- Use Locked Canon — Add character traits, rules, and facts to the Canon so AI won't contradict them
- Build Your Style — The more you write (and accept suggestions), the better AI matches your voice
- Iterate — If you don't like a suggestion, reject it or regenerate. AI learns from your choices
What AI Respects
- Locked Canon facts (character names, established events, world rules)
- Your writing voice (prose style, dialogue patterns)
- Story structure (pacing, beat requirements)
- Your explicit directions (tone, length, content)
Troubleshooting
Q: AI suggestions don't match my story A: Add more details to your Canon. More context = better suggestions.
Q: AI keeps suggesting similar ideas A: Try different directions. Use specific story beats instead of vague prompts.
Q: I don't see suggestions appearing A: Ensure Codex has enough information (Canon, Beats, Style) to guide generation.
